Pirate Radio aka “The Boat That Rocked”

2009

Pirate Radio

Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy and Nick Frost

A comedy about an illegal radio station in the North Sea in the 1960s.

It’s pretty much just a band of DJs playing a bunch of music that the British government doesn’t like. The government minister does everything in his power to shut them down.

Can the ‘pirates’ be stopped?

Meanwhile, girls are brought aboard for romancing and whatnot. You learn a little about the DJs and their life philosophy, etc.

While the movie pretty much sucked donkey hooves, at least there was great music to listen to. And there was one funny scene where I actually laughed, out loud even.

Pirate Radio is 116 min of boring, well… minus the 3 min scene of laughter.

I wouldn’t really recommend this movie to anyone unless of course you enjoy boring British music history, then have at it.

I’m giving it a rating of two steaming piles of poo.

  1. Donkey hooves! That’s awesome. I had a hard time caring for any of the characters. In fact, I really wanted to punch a couple of them in the mouth with the stunts they pulled in the movie. This movie should be called “Shagging DJ’s on a boat–Oh behave!”. The music and nostalgia were not enough to prevent my bitter disappointment.
